When I first discovered Nicola’s work, I knew I wanted to collaborate. I knew her fluid lines and geometric shapes would compliment my jewellery. Her portraits of women express so many different emotions and the thought of applying these to my jewellery was such an exciting prospect…
I approached Nicola nearly a year ago now and after a LONG old while, I am delighted to finally be able to release the collection! Its been a long time coming, since I didn’t realise how busy this year was going to get and how long the collection would take to develop, but finally, we are ready to go!!!!!
We started off my discussing pieces that could work with illustration, then Nicola did some sketches and we worked out how to apply them to each piece. Technically, I wasn’t sure what the best way to apply a clear drawing on the metal would be. But after working on some prototypes with an engraver, I was so happy with the outcome. I also knew I wanted to incorporate gemstones into the pieces, and they worked perfectly as the eyes in most of the drawings, really giving each piece a personality.
I am SO excited to finally be able to release the collection, I love every piece so much and think each is full of life.
I hope you love the collection as much as us!
About Nicola
Nicola Morland is a London-based artist who works across painting, drawing and ceramics. Her artwork is and always has been focused around women. She is fascinated by the distinctive, yet subtle contours of the female form. Incorporating her graphic design background, she explores working with simplified geometric shapes and features of the human face and body, with an aim to express a range of raw emotions in playful and unexpected ways. These stripped-back portraits appear somewhat abstract, yet identifiable, expressing feelings such as loneliness, resilience, boredom, lust, disapproval and ecstasy. It’s all about minimalism, femininity, and expression.
